This is a fundraising event to benefit Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) and Connect2Culture (C2C). Both non-profit groups work hard to maintain the growing arts culture in downtown and the greater Joplin community. The evening will include catering and desserts by Red Onion Cafe, painting, party favors, and a Midnight Champagne Toast on the rooftop (weather permitting). Guest may register as Individuals or Couples and may choose to upgrade to the deluxe package for a 3-hr open bar ticket. Attendees will also receive a swag bag full of all sorts of goodies. Redecorating your living room or another room in your house? Looking for that statement piece? Want to support our talented local artists? Wayside Furniture might be the place to accomplish all of the above! Wayside is home to a new “in-store gallery” currently featuring local and regional artists Steve & Cindy Head, Andrew Batcheller, Linda Teeter and Mary Datum.
All artists exhibiting at this time are Joplin Regional Artists Coalition members. All works on display are for sale. What a great opportunity for all involved! Just makes sense, doesn’t it?
A Seasonal Choral Flourish will be the 5th presentation of this annual concert, traditionally held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. This year, it will be held on Friday, December 5th at 7:30pm. Selections will feature the Concert Chorale, Jazz Unlimited, and the Chamber Singers. The Concert Chorale is the largest choral, performing ensemble on campus. This lightly auditioned choir is made up of both majors and non-majors that demonstrate a love for choral music and have a willingness to strive for continued improvement of choral techniques and vocal skills. Their repertoire ranges from classical works to gospel and contemporary. Jazz Unlimited is a vocal jazz ensemble that concentrates on the intricacies of jazz music. The Chamber Singers is a supreme ensemble chosen for their musicality and purity of vocal quality. These vocally mature, select singers perform extensively throughout the four-state area demonstrating a refined sensitivity of the blending of music and text. All choral groups will perform under the direction of Dr. David Sharlow.
Special guests include Dr. Jeffrey Macomber and the Southern Symphony Orchestra. The Southern Symphony Orchestra is Joplin’s college/community orchestra hosted by MSSU.
