Phoenix Fired Art is bringing the work of 13 artists from 8 states to Joplin with a national juried ceramic exhibit, “Just Desserts.” An opening reception to the public will be held Friday, August 7 from 5:30–8:30pm.
“Just Desserts” includes ceramic vessels used to make and serve desserts or dessert liqueurs AND ceramic or mixed media sculptural works addressing the concept of getting what one deserves…good or bad.

This exhibition was juried by Sunshine Cobb. Sunshine graduated with a BA in Studio Art from California State University at Sacramento, in 2004. She received her MFA in Ceramics from Utah State University in 2010. In 2013 she was named as an emerging artist by both Ceramics Monthly and National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts. Sunshine is a working potter and travels the country as a lecturing and demonstrating artist. She is currently setting up shop in California.

You asked for it and Spiva is pleased to offer the second Tween Lock-In! Don’t know what a lock-in is? It’s an overnight adventure for youth ages 9-13. Stay up all night and play games, laugh, eat and…most importantly, make art!
Friday – Saturday| August 7–8 | 10pm–6am | Ages: 9-13 | Cost: $40
This year’s lock-in will have a Harry Potter theme. Hogwarts will cater the party with many of Harry’s favorite treats. Professor McGonagall will teach transfiguration spells at a photo booth, while Professor Snape leads students in the dark arts and crafts of wand making and more. Wand skills will be practiced as participants play interactive games on a supersize Xbox Connect! Participants may bring a sleeping bag and pillow. Coming in costume is not required, but welcome! Food will be provided. Space is limited to 20 students, so register early!
