The Joplin Kiwanis Club, in collaboration with the Joplin Regional Artists Coalition (JRAC), Connect2Culture (C2C) and Spiva Center for the Arts, will be hosting a fine arts festival! The festival will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 on Main Street in Downtown Joplin. In addition to fine arts booths, there will be a stage for performing arts activities as well as booths for Joplin’s not-for-profit arts organizations. The arts festival will run 10am–6pm, with musical acts playing until 10pm. Funds raised by this program will be used to support a variety of youth related programs organized by the Joplin Kiwanis Club. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Phoenix Fired Art’s new exhibit of work by Kevin W. Hughes is too much fun! Hughes’ sculptures explore the dual concepts of relationships and toys. Through the similarities and differences of forms and their materials, Hughes delves into how people relate to one another. “These items that I make, find or buy to manipulate become representations of the relationships we have.”
About the Artist: Kevin W. Hughes was born and raised in the “Bootheel” area of Southeast MO. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, MO and a Mater of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Mr. Hughes has exhibited his creative work in over one hundred and fifty international, national, and regional exhibitions. His work is held in international and national collections including the Standard Ceramic Supply Company, Pittsburgh, PA, Taipei County Yingko Ceramics Museum, Taipei County, Taiwan, R.O.C. and the Arkansas Art Center Foundation Collection, Little Rock, AK.
