How often does TJ host concerts? When is the season/how many concerts are there per season?
TJ’s annual concert and theater series includes several theatrical and musical events each year. Some years there are five or six events, and some years there are seven or eight events. The series runs from late August to mid May, and the program is announced in early summer.

What type of concerts does TJ bring to Joplin? What might one see there?
With the annual Concert and Theater Series, TJ works to bring live, world-class theatrical and concert performances to the Joplin area. All events are open to the community, and most include a reception with the artists after the show. Concert events include big-name vocal and instrumental performers such as piano duo Anderson & Roe, brass quintet Boston Brass, strings trio Time for Three, and pianist Julian Gargiulo. Some of these performers are paired with local orchestras, such as the opening night performance in the TJ Concert Hall by Jubilant Sykes and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. Theatrical events include Lightwire performances, The Nutcracker by the New York Ballet Theater, magic shows, operas, musicals, and other events. Each season features events that appeal to audiences of all ages.

What is the cost of each concert and how to reserve tickets (price-range would be good)?
Concert and theater events range in price from Free to $18. We have discounts for students and seniors that vary depending on the show. Season passes are offered prior to the beginning of the season, and these are typically a significant bargain.

Short “About TJ” statement/foundation of the TJ Concert Hall (what is the importance of the new TJ Concert Hall…not only for the students but for the Joplin area)?
The 425-seat TJ Concert Hall at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School is a state-of-the-art concert facility, and was built as part of the Humphreys Arts and Student Life Complex in 2010. The arts are an important part of the overall program at Thomas Jefferson, and with more than 75% of the Middle and Upper School student body participating in music and/or performing arts activities, the school community included development and construction of a new performing arts center in its 2009 Strategic Plan. While the majority of the stage time is reserved for student performances – TJ is an independent school with 305 students in grades Pre-K through 12 and produces three school musicals each year, and several concert performances by each division’s orchestra and vocal ensemble, the school brings world-class performers to the Joplin community through its annual Concert and Theater series. Information about the Concert and Theater Series, which is open to the public, is available at
