Minnie Hackney Community Service Center (1946)
Originally called the Negro Service Council, the Minnie Hackney Community Service Center was founded in 1946 to serve Joplin’s Black community as well as minority travelers looking for information, food, or a safe place to spend the night. More than 70 years later, the Center is named after one of its former directors and it continues to serve the Joplin area through memberships, civic classes, recreational activities, services for the elderly, resources for the underprivileged, and more.
