Description: This indoor mural was created by nationally renowned artist and Joplin native, Robert Higgs in 1960. Higgs was deeply immersed in arts and culture, studying art in Kansas City and at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, serving as the first president of the Ozark Artists Guild, playing a pivotal role in forming what would become George A. Spiva Center for the Arts, and working at Joplin Printing Company as their Art Director. Higgs’ love for the arts even followed him overseas when he served in the south Pacific and Japan in World War II, during which the U.S. Army distributed a collection of 85 prints featuring his work.
