Artist Statement: Joplin was a resilient community long before May 22, 2011. However, after a devastating EF-5 tornado destroyed much of the town, that resolve was put to the test – and Joplin rose to the challenge. Local artist Eric Haun sought to capture and commemorate his community’s resilience through his first piece of public art, Sparrow.
