Czech Semester Book Club: “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”
September 8 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Explore Czech ideas, culture, and history with Czech novelist Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1984). This novel tells the story of two couples following the Prague Spring of 1968: a young woman in love with a man caught between his love for her and his unending womanizing, and one of his mistresses and her faithful lover. Kundera combines pieces of philosophical brilliance and artistic beauty to create snapshots of imperfect humans facing life-changing decisions. The book club will meet twice throughout the semester: September 8 (parts one through four) and September 22 (through part seven). Then, join the book club on October 4 at 7:00pm for a screening of The Unbearable Lightness of Being at Bookhouse Cinema! This event is part of MSSU’s Czech Semester. Free and open to the public.
