Joplin Jazz Camp (Grades 6-12)

The Joplin Jazz Camp will provide each student with a foundation in the jazz idiom through classes and rehearsals that emphasize improvisation, theory, jazz history, ear training and transcription of solos, melodic patterns, and jazz style and interpretation. Students will be encouraged to think creatively and truly dig in and experience the music through active learning, rather than simply practicing patterns out of a book.

Joplin Little Theatre

This year marks the 27th year of Joplin Little Theatre’s Children’s Workshop. While attending the workshop, students will learn all aspects of putting on a production. They will have the opportunity to build their own costumes, props, and set ­– as well as learn how to operate the lights, sound, and make-up. At the end of the week, students will perform a short play for family and friends. There are two workshops available this year:

Each day will include computer activities, a featured animal, science experiments, and fun readings. Yellowstone, Crystal Cave, and Denali will be explored as we experiment with geysers, fossils, constellations, how mammals stay warm, and ice fishing.

Awesome Art Camp (Grades 2–5)

Rising 2nd-5th grade students are invited to join Mrs. Turk for three awesome days of art activities, projects, and fun!  Each day students will work on a different art project that they do not have enough time for in a regular classroom art period.  Students will create some extra-large collage animal portraits, do some really cool “fluid art,” and even take an Art Field Trip to George Washington Carver National Monument with sketchpads to learn about the artist and draw in the natural surroundings.

Fairy Tale STEM Challenge (Grades K–2)

Rising Kindergarten-2nd grader students will have fun in this hands-on STEM class as we plan, create, and improve things to help popular fairy tale characters solve problems!  Students will help the Three Little Pigs, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and the Three Billy Goats Gruff solve their fairy tale challenges, and have lots of fun using engineering concepts, too!
